A 48 Hour Guide to Austin, TX

Hey everyone! I previously published this post about a month ago before I transferred my blog from WordPress.com to WordPress.org, so I want to re-share this one more time in case you missed it!

More and more, I’ve seen loads of people I know make the trek from the midwest (or elsewhere in this great country of ours) to Austin for many occasions, bachelorette and bachelor parties amongst them. Now that we’ve lived in Austin for almost a full year (can you believe it?!), we’ve finally had a chance to explore and compile a list of our fav Austin places that you absolutely must go to if you’re in town! In no particular order, here’s our favorite places to go/things to do.

Riverside Drive – If you’re in the mood for a workout, one of Colin and I’s favorite places to go is to Riverside drive and walk/run/bike along the river. The Lady Bird Hike & Bike trail is almost 10 miles round trip, but you can get a great workout in without going all ten miles! Not to mention, the views of the city are incredible! Pro-tip: park on W Riverside Drive near the Zach Theatre – the road will say “no outlet” but there’s some free two hour parking that’s almost always open!

2. Stroll around the University of Texas campus – Austin is home to a really great university – UT! Even if you aren’t a longhorn fan, the UT campus is till an Austin staple. As someone who loves exploring college towns and discovering how vastly different they are, UT’s campus is no exception. If you’re here in the fall, catching a game at DKR is so worth it! If it’s not football season, hitting the Co-OP for some UT swag is still worth the visit.

3. Get some grub – They say if you come to ATX and don’t gain weight, then you’re definitely not doing it right! There are SO many wonderful places to eat in Austin, that it’s impossible to do them all in one weekend! If you’re an Austin first timer, you must at least stop at Torchy’s Tacos for some queso and P.Terry’s for the best burger of your life. Hollamode Thai Rolled Ice cream near Zilker is another must-have, along with Dolce Neve for some desserts! Treat yourself to some delicious toast at Irene’s, a fruit smoothie from Juiceland,

Personally, I love the Bacon Toast from Irene’s

If you’ve never treated yourself to Juiceland, please do so immediately!

One of my favorite things about Dolce Neve is their constant rotation of fresh & healthy flavors.

4. Austin Photo Ops – The capital building is definitely a great place for a photo op, and so is the rainbow ATX sign in front of the Whole Foods on N. Lamar! The Pennybacker Bridge is another well known touristy spot, but the views don’t disappoint. In the off season, Hamilton Pool is worth going to. You can’t swim in the winter, but it’s not as fun.

If you’ve ever been to Austin, what are some of your favorite places to go?
